당신의 몸상태가 몇일 안에 급속도로 나빠길 것입니다. 1주 이내에 당신의 폐는 괴사가 진행돼고 폐에서 떨어진 괴사물로 가득차게 됩니다. 기도를 확보하기 위새 석션을 시도 하지만 돼직하게 굳어있는 괴사물에 석션 팁이 막히고 산소 탱크도 같은 상황에 놓이게 됩니다. 당신은 38도 이상의 지속적인 고열에 시달리게 됩니다. 타이레놀도 얼음 팩도 얼음 목욕 등 그 어떤 방법도 소용없습니다. 당신은 지곳적인 고열로 인한 다중 장기 부전에 빠지게 됩니다. 이제 최후의 선택은 유압식 인공 호흡기를 장착하고 진정제를 투약하는 것 뿐입니다. 하지만 이것도 부족합니다. 결국 심정지가 오고 당신은 죽게 됩니다. 홀로....

당신은 아마도 지쳐있고 감정이 매말라버린 당신을 처음 보는 사람들에게 둘러 싸이고, 혹시라고 나중에 당신의 가족들이 당신을 찻아 올 것이라는 희망으로 그들이 당신의 죽은 몸을 염하고 냉동 트럭으로 옮길 것 입니다. 슬퍼할 겨를 이 없습니다. 그곳에는 또 다른 6명의 환자가 살기위해 싸우고 있으니까요. 만약 오늘 나에게 맏겨진 환자 한 명이 죽지 않았다면 그건 아주 큰 행운 이었을 겁니다. 하지만 그게 끝은 아닙니다. 다시 튜브와 기도 삽관용 튜브를 싸 들고 음압실로 향합니다..오늘을 살기 위해....이것이 나의 하루 입니다. 이 비러먹을 일이 등골이 오싹하게도 매일 일어나는 사실 입니다.

Today was a really hard day. I worked my ass off to save a patient, and the patient died. It’s so emotionally taxing to do EVERYTHING in your power to try to save someone; just for them to die anyway. 😥

I’m pleading with my fellow Oklahomans; PLEASE, in light of the “slow reopening”🙄 continue social distancing! I want you to know the ugly truth about COVID19 if it hits Oklahoma like it has NY:

You will quickly deteriorate over a series of days, then continue over weeks, your lungs will start necrotizing and sloughing off. Suctioning used to be the way we helped clear your airway, but we can no longer suction; the secretions are so thick it clogs the in-line suction tip, so your oxygen tanks. You will be habitually febrile, probably won’t get under 101. Even with Tylenol routinely, ice packs, ice baths, etc.. won’t matter, nothing cools you down. You have multi-system organ failure, & are cooking from your fever. Now, we’ve maxed you out on all pressers, sedation, vent settings, that’s still not enough; you will arrest and die, ALONE..

You’ll be surrounded by exhausted, emotionally drained, strangers that are fighting back the tears as they wrap your body up to go to the refrigerated trucks (yes, that’s a thing.), in hopes that your family will (or can) claim your body. However, there is no time to mourn you, as they have 6 other patients; all fighting for their lives.
Granted you might be a “lucky” one that doesn’t die, but ends up with a peg tube, trach, and sent to a vent farm to live out your days. That’s no life! This shit is REAL, & it’s bleak.

It takes every ounce of emotional strength I can muster; to face these patients everyday and know there isn’t a damn thing I can do to save them. I’m seeing the worst of the worst. Everyone wants to salvage everyone’s feelings and say, “I’m not trying to scare you.” The hell with that! I hope you are scared!! I am. The memes are funny, but this isn’t a joke anymore. You need to grow up and stop being reckless.
